In most cases, no, they aren’t: It’s a challenge (or outright impossible) to fit bulky items, like paper towels, or flats of beverages. It’s also difficult to sort and stack items in the bottom basket because there’s a top basket in your way.
The ability to sort items more effectively while shopping was a common theme in Bemis’s focus group research. That’s why we designed our patented “driver side loading” Convenience Cart basket to be accessible from the driving or pushing position of the cart. This design also enables the cart to hold bulky items. To top it all off (or bottom it out in this case), we added a lower tray that you commonly see on larger carts for more storage. The picture below shows a fully loaded traditional cart. EVERY item fits in the (Three Tier) Bemis Convenience Cart. The cubic inch capacity doesn’t often tell the full story on just how much a cart can hold. As stores increasingly emphasize fresh departments, the ability to sort and segment items will become more important.
